Sunset Dinner - Medicine Hat

Now in its second year, the Sunset Dinner (the kickoff to the Sunshine Skillet Food Festival) took an amazing Alberta Ate dinner to new heights with stunning views. This year’s dinner, hosted in partnership with the Alberta Culinary Tourism Alliance, was set under the World’s Largest Teepee, the Saamis Teepee, in beautiful Medicine Hat. The cloudless skies made for stunning views of the coulees paired with an exceptional epicurean adventure of Aboriginal cuisine.IMG_2936

Upon arrival, guests were greeted with a glass of 2008 Stellar’s Jay Brut, a wonderful sparkling wine from a fantastic BC winery. The evening began with a performance from the Thundering Hills Cree Band of the Nekaneet Cree Nation in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, and an opening prayer from Elder Fred Stonechild.

The talented chef team put together a stellar menu, taking you through a sensory experience of Alberta cuisine, from the microgreen and cabbage salad, to the beef cheeks and smashed potato, beef brisket, wild elk tartare, and wrapping up with a trio of pemmican cake, corn ice cream and saskatoon & sour cherry cobbler.
