Owner/ Educator/Chef: Kathryn Joel
Graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, London
Kathryn has become a vibrant contributor to the local Edmonton food scene in a very short period of time due to her contagious passion, hard work, culinary expertise and ethical approach to cooking and food. She is all about multi-cultural global cuisine made with the best fresh local ingredients and works to celebrate the terroir of our Northern Alberta region within her cooking class kitchen. After a brief career in finance in her twenties, Kathryn packed it in to go to cooking school and has never looked back. She grew up cooking: “my mum is a cook and still caters in her 70’s. “ So it wasn’t a huge surprise when for her to realize finance was not her bag. Moving from the United Kingdome to Alberta in 2009, Kathryn left behind a small food production business in she had started with a friend that is still thriving. She also left a part-time job assisting at the Seafood Training School at Billingsgate Fish Market in East London where she discovered her real vocation: teaching. Immediately upon moving to Edmonton, she renovated and set up her home kitchen as a teaching kitchen and her new business venture, Get Cooking, was born.
Kathryn’s cooking classes draw on her passion for the culinary traditions of our multi-cultural community, as well as her fervent commitment to support local producers and suppliers with the use of fresh, local and artisan ingredients. Classes often feature a local producer or supplier. At Get Cooking, Kathryn combines her culinary expertise with her commitment to uncomplicated, approachable cooking. She believes that with some basic cooking skills and a good local knowledge of where to source the right ingredients, anyone can bring flavours from around the world into their own Alberta kitchen.
Be sure to check out the schedule of classes and events on her website as classes sell out almost as fast as she schedules them onto her calendar.
As this business continues to thrive, the summer of 2014 is the most exciting yet, for Get Cooking, as she will be relocating from her home kitchen at:
