Sunshine Skillet

On Friday, April 11th, the Alberta Ate Chef Collaborative brought five phenomenal chefs to Medicine Hat for the Sunset Dinner, a sold out partner event held in conjunction with the Sunshine Skillet Food Festival. Representing the Medicine Hat market were: Chef Raymond McGuire from Desert Blume Golf Course and last year’s winner of the Sunshine Skillet Professional Competition; Chef Boonying Khumdha from the Thai Orchid Room; and Chef Benjamin Cherrett of the Connaught Golf Club. They were joined by Top Chef Canada Season 4 contestants Chef Pierre Lamielle of Food on Your Shirt, and Chef Karine Moulin from Hotel Arts in Calgary.

Together these five chefs created a brilliant five course, Southern Alberta inspired menu that featured regional ingredients such as Bassano potatoes and Poplar Bluff carrots. Each of the courses was paired with a different Canadian wine to complement the dish. The evening of Western elegance was hosted by Anastasia Martin-Stilwell from Travel Alberta, and also included musical entertainment by local talent Take 2. Guests walked away with recipes, trading cards, and even a “redneck wine glass” to remember the evening by!
