What’s canolaPALOOZA you ask? Its a day that brings together the best research and agronomy extension people into one place, for a day of interactive in-field learning where you move through learning stations at your own pace. There’s also games, a dunk tank and of course food trucks to create an in-field carnival atmosphere.

TUESDAY, JUNE 28 at the LACOMBE RESEARCH STATION
Gates Open at 9:30 am for a learn at your own pace through the stations listed below featuring an amazing group of instructors. The site closes at 4:00 pm
There is NO CHARGE to attend but pre-registration is required

INTERACTIVE LEARNING STATIONS:
- History of Canola Plots
- discover the relationships between brassica species and how we can source genetics for breeding yield, disease and insect resistance
- explore a timeline of plots showing how genetics, agronomics and the oil and meal profile of canola has changed over years
- Canola Seed Production
- learn how hybrid canola is made and about quality testing for factors including hybrid vigor and herbicide tolerance
- Insects – Pests and Beneficials
- identifying insect damage on podded canola and learn about correct spray timing for cabbage seedpod weevil
- see the net benefit of sweeping by learning how to properly sweep & count the good and bad bugs
- witness carabid beetles in action as they demonstrate their predatory nature on unsuspecting crop pests
- Harvest Management
- join CASE IH, New Holland and John Deere who will all have combines and technicians on hand to talk about minimizing harvest losses
- learn tips and tricks for straight cutting canola
- Nutrient Management
- observe the differences that rates and placements of fertilizer products has on canola stand establishment
- learn the nutrient demands and soil bank withdrawals that occur when growing a high yielding canola crop
- Agronomy Photography
- learn how to take quality pictures for diagnostics by knowing which symptoms to capture and how, how to use frame of reference for size etc
- Canola Diseases
- perfect your pathology skills with information on how to scout for, identify and manage clubroot, blackleg, sclerotinia and more
- this station also includes a dunk tank – your chance to send a pathologist for a swim
- Integrated Weed Management
- develop an integrated management plan to control cleavers while protecting canola export markets
- diagnose herbicide injury caused by timing, drift and sprayer clean out issues
- learn about the Combcut and other tools for an integrated approach to weed management
- Stand Establishment
- Explore plant establishment mistakes and how they affect yield potential and decision making throughout the season
- travel through time with a look at seeding equipment from the early drills through to today’s newest technology for planting canola
- Canola Cinema
- grab a popcorn and spend a few minutes in the shade enjoying a canola movie
