As a kickoff to ten days of culinary festivities, ACTA partnered with Events Edmonton to host the opening night President’s Reception for the Taste of Edmonton festival. This was a private event to celebrate the launch the festival, with a guestlist that included event sponsors, local media, and other invited guests. While the weather proved to be a challenge (it poured rain all day!), the Sip N Savour tent provided a great venue for the guests to mingle and enjoy the culinary offerings of some very talented chefs.
On this night, four notable chefs and four rising star sous chefs were brought together to prepare delectable dishes for the guests. Sous Chefs Nic Barron (Century Grill), Mark Kalynchuk (Hundred Kitchen & Bar), Karen Kwong (Edmonton Petroleum Club), and Stephen Baidacoff (Get Cooking) set the stage with an incredible arrangement of canapés, including both beef and bison tartare, Asian-inspired gazpacho, and duck confit rilette.

Following the canapés was not an easy feat, but the Executive Chefs did a wonderful job serving up some delicious Alberta cuisine. Chef Eric Hanson (Get Cooking) prepared some of the most delicious Alberta whitefish in a tomato jus that had us all salivating, while Chef Doreen Prei (Edmonton Petroleum Club) used a variety of local mushrooms to create a ragout that is second to none. Chef Blair Lebsack (RGE RD) served up an exquisite bison hump involtini, and Chef Karine Moulin’s (Hotel Arts, Calgary) wild strawberry and rhubarb lollipops were the perfect ending to an incredible evening. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for this wonderful event!
