Prairie Gardens was first established in 1956. Tam Andersen, a farmer’s daughter from southern Alberta, studied Horticulture at Olds College, and jumped at the chance to have her own farm when the opportunity arose. Taking reign at Prairie Gardens in 1984, strawberries and broccoli were her first crops.

Her mission at Prairie Gardens is to create a place for community to gather and experience farm life. In doing so, she has developed a 50 acre adventure farm that feeds people the freshest and highest quality produce, at the same time creating a community passionate about connecting farm life and fresh local produce with their children. The little train that tours a small portion of the farm is a favourite of everyone visiting on a special event day.

Tam expanded the strawberry and broccoli repertoire to offer a Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) program in 2011. She now grows a vast array of vegetables, herbs, edible flowers, pumpkins, corn and berries on 40 acres of beautiful Alberta farmland. The bounty of Alberta is all too evident and proudly on display for all who visit to see during harvest season. Prairie Gardens Adventure Farm offers the greatest variety of pumpkins of any farmer in Alberta and is a must visit during this time.

Tam is to feed the community and encourages customers to become a part of the “Prairie Gardens’ farm-ily” by visiting the farm for a tour or seasonal weekend festival event. She also works with local chefs, passionate about fresh produce, offering field to fork pop-up dinners at the farm right in the field!

Prairie Gardens’ CSA Program.

The season begins mid April and runs to mid September, with 15 weeks of harvest baskets, fresh from the farm. There is an opportunity to learn about farming through the growing season, with workshops on planting, herbs, harvesting and weeding!

Sign up this spring for a season of fresh farm produce from our farm to your family.
