Growing up in Abbotsford, a small Agricultural town in the heart of British Columbia’s Fraser Valley. At 16, Mike began working at a small fine dining restaurant in his hometown. Little did Mike know at that time, that this would have a profound impact on his life. With an immense passion for the visual arts & community, Mike found a new love working through kitchens and dining rooms alike. The passion only grew from there, taking Mike throughout the Lower Mainland of British Columbia and onto Vancouver Island.

Through stints at numerous restaurants and working his way through art school, his passion for cooking was solidified. With Calgary established as where he wanted to be, Mike moved on to a new opportunity at the Home Office of Moxie’s Bar & Grill. Mike quickly advanced from Senior Sous Chef to Chef at their flagship location. Being fortunate enough to work directly alongside the Corporate Executive Chef’s & Canadian Bocuse D’Or Team seeing menu development as well as the creation & testing of new company wide operating systems.

Honing a keen eye for detail, development and execution with large corporate restaurant groups, Mike began with C.A. Restaurant Enterprises. Starting as a Sous Chef in 2012 at Murrieta’s Bar & Grill in Calgary’s downtown core. Quickly establishing himself and thriving in a new environment, Mike went on to Chef the Murrieta’s Bar & Grill in Canmore, Alberta. Under the watchful eye of Executive Chef, Chris Grafton, Mike gained invaluable insight and knowledge. In the fall of 2012, Mike was promoted to C.A. Restaurant’s Corporate Field Chef. Mike oversaw the culinary operations & development at Murrieta’s Bar & Grill in Canmore, Edmonton (previously) and Calgary along with theTrib Steakhouse, Swine & Sow Wine & Ale House and the Cellar Wine Store all within Calgary’s downtown core.

In June of 2015, Mike moved on to pursue an exciting new opportunity, as Executive Chef, with the creators of Craft Beer Market,Commonwealth Bar & Stage and the Hifi Club to introduce, Home and Away - Calgary Kitchen.

Home & Away was born from a deep-rooted love for Calgary, travel and the golden era of sport. We’ve blending the best of each into a nostalgic concept that features contemporary takes on classic feel-good food, cocktails and décor, to create a modern and comfortable Calgary Kitchen located in the heart of 17th Avenue.

Opening Fall of 2015, Home & Away will offer unique takes on classic comfort food. Sourcing from a carefully curated group of Albertan producers & farmers to highlight the amazing products of our “Home” province along with Oceanwise Seafood and applying them to classic & diverse “Away” preparations.
