Meadow Creek Farms is run by Mandy Melnyk a single 35 year old that resides Northwest of Waskatenau Alberta. Mandy raises hogs, chickens and turkeys outside from April until September. Mandy’s animals are raised slowly with lots of exercise, greens, wheat, barley, oats and peas. The flavor in Mandy’s meat products is phenomenal. Mandy will not give her animals soya, or any gmo produtcs. Mandy gets her pork processed at country quality meats in Bon Accord and there is no Gluten or MSG in her processed products. Sausages, Smoked hams and Turkeys are traditionally smoked in cook house.
Mandy grows Organically certified, Purple hard neck Garlic, Potatoes, Sweet Spanish and Purple Onions, Tomatoes, Dill, Kale, Patty Pan Squash, Beets, pickling Carrots and Raspberries. Mandy has worked hard to certify her land and has learned the art of organic farming with the elements of Northern Alberta Climates. She has endured years with to much water and a sever drought in 2015. Due to her remote location from Edmonton Mandy finds distribution to be her largest challenge. She works hard to get her product to Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Slave Lake and Jasper bi weekly.
Mandy has an online store that can be found on the website which helps her to obtain orders to arrange delivery.
Mandy has many nieces and nephew’s that play a large role on the farm. It is Mandy’s hope that they will have an interest in farming in the future and or become ambassadors for the importance of knowing where your food comes from.
Mandy works with a program called Solo Supports which helps youth and adults transition to living independently on their own.
Meadow Creek Farms has a 100 member CSA which is the heart and soul of the work she does each day on the farm. “The best gift you can give your family is to know where your food comes from.”
