Check out Alley Kat Brewing on the #SippinAlberta Culinary Trail.
Alley Kat Brewing Company has been creating award winning beers since 1995. They are the fourth oldest brewery in Alberta, with a current capacity of 3.9 million bottles annually.
Alley Kat Brewing Company is owned and operated by Neil and Lavonne Herbst of Edmonton. Neil took his experience as an employee in the Government of Alberta liquor business and poured it into his passion for micro-brewing. He knew the demands of the local market, and saw an opportunity to launch a truly home-grown beer made with local customer satisfaction in mind.
Neil, Lavonne, and their team believe that less is more when it comes to craft beer. They have built their business slowly and deliberately, developing a passionate following within the city of Edmonton. Wherever possible Alley Kat works with local products and local suppliers.
Throughout the years Alley Kat has maintained a core group of five beers. At the same time, they continue to push the microbrew envelope with their Limited Runs and Seasonal brews. Over the years, the brewery has produced over 50 unique and exciting session ales in the larger format.
The folks at Alley Kat Brewing believe in being responsible members of the community. They use no preservatives or stabilizers, and none of their beers are pasteurized. After the brewing process, all leftover grain product is recycled and used as cattle feed on a local farm. It takes a lot of hot water to brew good beer. All excess hot water Alley Kat uses is captured and reused within the brewery. Alley Kat’s glass bottles are also part of a bottle pool, which means they get reused up to 20 times before they are crushed and made into other products.
Alley Kat Brewing Company is always eager to share their love of beer with others. Free, drop-in tours are offered Thursday’s and Friday’s between 12 and 5pm.
